Recording of phone conversation leaves 1 accused of drug crimes

When authorities receive information on the possible presence of drug activity, a subsequent investigation may ensue. Should this investigation include a wiretap on a phone line, a conversation between two individuals could lead to allegations of drug crimes. A 27-year-old man has recently been arrested and accused of involvement in drug activity under similar circumstances in Wisconsin.

The incident reportedly took place while authorities were investigating another individual whom they suspected to be involved in the distribution of nearly 500 grams of methamphetamine. During this investigation, a wiretap was placed on her phone line. Police claim that with the use of a wiretap, they were able to uncover evidence suggesting that a man was also supplying this person with unspecified amounts of cocaine.

According to authorities, the man would allegedly place the drugs within an unlocked motor vehicle and place a call to notify the woman of its location for pickup. During a subsequent search of his residence, police allegedly uncovered as many as 21 grams of cocaine and more than 5 ounces of marijuana. He was taken into custody soon thereafter and is now facing drug charges.

Unfortunately, many of those who are accused of drug crimes may be unfamiliar with the criminal justice system. Due to its complex nature, a person who faces such charges may benefit from seeking the guidance of an attorney early in the process. An attorney can help a client in Wisconsin gain an understanding of what to expect from the process and provide him or her with advice on the best course of action to take during court proceedings.
