Wisconsin men arrested in sex sting operation over weekend

A 28-year-old Racine man and his 23-year-old male Milwaukee accomplice have been charged with solicitation of prostitutes. In addition, the 28-year-old is facing an additional charge of keeping a place of prostitution.

The charges stemmed from an FBI sting. According to court documents, the sting operation was put into place after an ad reportedly appeared on June 19 under the menu heading of “Escort” on backpage.com. Documents state that investigators made contact by calling the phone number associated with the ad, and that they were told that the person was located at the Riverside Inn.

Shortly after midnight on June 20, an investigator who was working undercover was contacted by text and told that the woman associated with the phone number was at the door outside the investigator’s room. The 19-year-old woman then allegedly told the investigator that for $200, she would perform sex. After money was exchanged, documents state that the signal was given by the investigator for the arrest team to enter the room. Reportedly, investigators then became aware that the 23-year-old man was waiting in another room of the motel. He was also taken into custody. The 28-year-old man was subsequently arrested the next day as part of the same sting operation.

Bond has been set at $15,000 for the 28-year-old man and $10,000 for the 23-year-old. Preliminary hearings for both men have been set for July 3.

Conviction for sex crimes such as solicitation for prostitutes and keeping a place of prostitution could result in a lengthy jail sentence. An experienced Wisconsin criminal attorney may be able to help reduce these types of charges and work to ensure that defendants are treated fairly during the court process.
