6 in Wisconsin home charged for drug crimes

Illicit drugs have, unfortunately, become a part of everyday life for many Wisconsin residents. It can be from a local or nationwide news reports of drug-related activities, or by a friend or family member being directly affected by addiction. Some local residents who seem to lead normal lives one day are arrested for drug crimes the next.

Drug charges were recently placed against six people in Central Wisconsin. A search of a house in Wisconsin Rapids a few days prior to Christmas allegedly uncovered a significant amount of methamphetamine along with some marijuana. A variety of charges for drug crimes were placed against four women and two men found at the residence, including being a party to the crime of methamphetamine possession with the intent to deliver, maintaining a drug trafficking place and drug paraphernalia possession.

The ages of those accused ranged from 19 to 39 years old. Also found at the residence was a 10-day-old infant. Exposure to the fumes of the toxic chemicals used to make methamphetamine can be harmful, but no evidence of manufacturing the drug was found at the home. Second-hand smoke exposure from methamphetamine use can also be harmful, and police did express concern over the infant's overall health. However, no more detailed information regarding the baby was released.

A Wisconsin resident accused of drug crimes would be well advised to contact an experienced defense attorney who can represent their best interests in court. The potential penalties for drug charges can be severe, and an attorney may help reduce or eliminate jail time under certain circumstances. Charges may be reduced or even dropped if certain criteria are not met, and plea agreements could be made with the prosecution when appropriate and in the best interests of the accused.
