Search of vehicle leads to allegations of drug crimes for 1

Without the necessary legal experience, many individuals may be unaware of their rights when it comes to involvement in a routine traffic stop. Without the presence of a warrant, law enforcement agents must generally have reasonable cause to suspect the presence of wrongdoing before they can perform a search of the vehicle. A man in Wisconsin could be working with an attorney to ensure his rights weren’t violated after a recent traffic stop left him accused of drug crimes.

According to reports, law enforcement agents initiated the traffic stop at around 1:30 a.m. on a recent Thursday. Although no information was provided as to what led them to pull the car over, upon approaching the driver, they claim the driver was impaired and proceeded to search the vehicle. During this search, police allegedly discovered an unspecified amount of cocaine, along with prescription medications and drug paraphernalia.

It remains unclear how authorities came to believe the man was operating a vehicle while impaired. He was taken into custody soon thereafter and is facing multiple charges, including possession with intent to deliver cocaine. Those accused of similar crimes may wish to protect themselves against undesirable consequences, but the criminal justice system can be complex.

Individuals who stand accused of drug crimes following a traffic stop may find it beneficial to consult with an attorney prior to addressing the allegations. By retaining the services of a defense attorney, a client in Wisconsin could obtain guidance in making informed decisions. An attorney can evaluate the charges against a client, along with the procedures used during the search of the vehicle, and assist in forming a strong defense for use during subsequent legal proceedings.
