Man accused of drug crimes pleads not guilty

A man in Reeseville has pleaded not guilty to charges that suggest he was in possession of a large amount of drugs. The 39-year-old Wisconsin resident entered the plea on March 22 after he was arrested following a months-long investigation. If he is found guilty of the drug crimes he is charged with, he could face over $500,000 in fines and a sentence of up to 166 years in prison.

According to the Dodge County Drug Task Force, which worked alongside the Jefferson County Drug Task Force and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, the investigation into the 39-year-old was conducted over several months by all participating agencies. It is unclear whether this included surveillance and/or wiretapping of his home. However, officers managed to secure a search warrant for his home, which was executed on March 15 in Lowell.

Police say the search turned up almost $10,000 in cash, along with a 1.5 pounds of what they believe to be cocaine. The street value of this much of the drug is estimated at between $30,000 and $35,000. The alleged cocaine, as well as the cash and several weapons, were reportedly found all over the house. The man is scheduled to attend a telephone scheduling conference to determine a court date on May 3.

Drug crimes vary in severity, but being charged with manufacturing and/or trafficking can be extremely serious. However, it is up to Wisconsin prosecutors to justify all police action during the investigation and the search of the man's home. His defense representation will carefully scrutinize each report to assess whether his rights were violated during the criminal investigation, as well as any evidence the prosecution puts forward to the court, in an effort to build a compelling defense against the array of charges.
