Violent crimes: 1 facing felony charges after breaking up a fight

When a physical altercation occurs, those nearby might feel inclined to protect themselves and others by stepping in and stopping the incident. While similar actions might be made with the best intentions, should an individual be forced to protect his or herself in the process, the result could be devastating. A 31-year-old man in Wisconsin is reportedly facing felony violent crimes charges after he allegedly pointed a firearm at an individual after attempting to break up a fight.

Witnesses say the incident began with two men who started fighting while waiting in line to buy food at a local establishment. An employee of the business came out to try and break up the altercation, and he was reportedly attacked by both men. At some point during the incident, the employee allegedly pulled out a rifle and pointed it at one of the individuals.

Although police have advised that no one was hurt and that no shots were fired, the employee was taken into custody shortly after the investigation. He is reportedly facing felony charges for reckless endangerment, the penalties of which are serious if a conviction is obtained. Police have also advised that they are uncertain whether the gun is real, as they have yet to locate it.

Individuals who are accused of violent crimes involving weapons may find it beneficial to prepare for what comes next by focusing on their defense. Since the process can be challenging to navigate alone, one could consider speaking with a defense attorney for some much-needed assistance. An attorney in Wisconsin can examine the situation and advise a client on the best course of action to take during subsequent legal proceedings.
