Man accused of internet sex crimes involving a child in Wisconsin

On behalf of Kohn Smith Roth | Apr 5, 2017 | Sex Crimes

Charges for crimes on the internet are becoming more common every year. Penalties for similar crimes can be severe, especially when involving a child. Online chat rooms contain a vast number of individuals, and with the anonymity involved, it is often impossible to know a person’s correct age. A Wisconsin man was recently arrested and is facing charges for sex crimes on the internet.

Police claim that an undercover informant posed as a 15-year-old girl and made contact with the 49-year-old man in an online chat room. The conversations were allegedly sexual, and went on for several months. According to police a meeting between the two was set up, where the man was ultimately taken into custody.

There are countless variables that can change the nature of a similar situation. For instance, if the man does not live alone, he may not have sole access to the computer. If he does have sole access, he may not have been aware of the actual age of the person with which he was chatting. A person in a similar situation may be facing severe penalties for a crime he or she knows nothing about.

Being accused of sex crimes can lead to a stressful and daunting period in a person’s life. When facing similar charges, it is advisable to seek legal counsel in the early stages of the process. An experienced defense attorney can thoroughly examine the evidence against an individual in Wisconsin and help him or her pursue the best overall outcome given the circumstances.
