Man who admitted Wisconsin sex crimes, also guilty elsewhere

Sometimes a person is accused of similar crimes in more than one state. Such is the case for a man who admitted to sex crimes in Wisconsin. He was extradited to another state to face charges against him there as well.

The man pleaded guilty to sexual assault and strangling in a Wisconsin case that involved assaults on two women. The attacks reportedly took place in 2010 and 2011.  He was sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

Apparently, DNA that was matched from the two Wisconsin assaults to another incident in Philadelphia led authorities to the same man. After being transported to Pennsylvania to face the charges there, he was convicted and sentenced to 30 to 60 years behind bars. A court of common pleas judge ruled the man to be a sexually violent predator.

Being convicted of serious sex crimes in Wisconsin or elsewhere is obviously no small matter. There have been many situations in the past, however, where someone facing conviction has relied on experienced representation to secure a lighter sentence than the maximum allowed. The court always has the final say, but a criminal defense attorney can submit requests to the court in the best interests of a client. In fact, long before a trial takes place, many criminal lawyers are sometimes able to convince the court to dismiss all charges or, in the alternative, reduce them; it all depends on the situation and what options are available to build and present a strong defense focused on achieving optimal results.
