JON'S CELL: A sexual assault took place in 2012. The incident reportedly occurred at a county fair. Two years later, DNA evidence obtained through a sexual assault analysis kit at the emergency room following the incident was apparently matched to a Wisconsin man who was registered as a sex crimes offender.
The woman in question was on her way home after work. She claimed that a stranger had forced her off the sidewalk, then choked her so she could not shout for help. She also said that while choking her to the point at which she could not breathe, the man sexually assaulted her.
At that time, the woman was taken to the hospital for emergency care. Tests were performed, and evidence was recorded appropriately. Now, four years after the fact, a 57-year-old man has been sentenced to serve 41 months in prison for the act. He has also been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
When police contacted the man, he admitted that he had been on the fairgrounds the day of the assault, but he denied that he had anything to do with the sex crimes. Authorities say another DNA sample was taken from the man, and it again matched that of the victim’s assault kit. Officials say the possibility that a specific DNA profile matching two unrelated individuals in the world is highly unlikely. Once the man serves his sentence, he will be set free on conditional release.
