Wisconsin man fights sex crimes charges

Committing some crimes may mean spending time in prison, but other crimes may bring a lifetime of punishment, even after jail time has been served. In Wisconsin and other states, those convicted of sex crimes may receive long prison sentences followed by years of restrictions. Defending against these accusations may require complex legal strategies.

While attending a conference, a man allegedly sent an instant message in which he identified himself by his age and a nickname to an undercover agent who was posing as a 13-year-old girl. According to police, the man and the agent traded messages, eventually agreeing to meet when the man would be in the town where the agent claimed to live. The messages allegedly contained some sexual comments and images.

About a month later, when the man arrived in the town to supposedly meet with the 13-year-old girl, police took him into custody. He has been charged with numerous felonies, including child enticement and causing a child to view sexual activity. The man was released on $10,000 cash bond with severe restrictions, such as work-only computer use and no unsupervised contact with minors. He is waiting for the Wisconsin Supreme Court to decide on the constitutionality of a computer-facilitated sex crime charge, which his attorney has moved to dismiss.

If convicted, the man faces over 70 years in prison. This means he could spend the rest of his life in jail. When people in Wisconsin are accused of sex crimes, they do well to seek legal advice as soon as possible. An attorney with experience defending these charges will know the strategies necessary to defend one’s rights and freedom.
