When facing drug charges in Wisconsin, it is impossible to determine ahead of time what the outcome will be in court. Often, results vary depending upon many different aspects of a situation, including but not limited to the type of legal representation a defendant retains before trial. Several people will likely be thinking about such things in the near future, after being arrested on suspicion of drug crimes in Jefferson County.
A country drug task force arrived at a particular residence and conducted a search of the home. They claim to have found more than 65 grams of methamphetamine. Officers say the street value is over $6,000.
Pipes, syringes and various other forms of paraphernalia often associated with drug use were also reportedly found inside the home. Four occupants of the house were arrested and charged with drug-related offenses. The suspects range in ages from 24 to 43. Apparently, even though four arrests were made, the investigation into this case remains ongoing.
In Wisconsin and all other states, law enforcement agents must adhere to strict protocol and regulations regarding the search and seizure of any person, property or potential evidence. Should an attorney be hired to represent a defendant charged with drug crimes, an investigation into the events that led to an arrest may suggest that perhaps some officers acted outside the accepted form of procedure. In such circumstances, a defense lawyer may challenge a portion or all of the state’s supposed evidence against a client. If the challenge is successful, the court may dismiss charges or, at least, deem certain evidence inadmissible in court.
