Wisconsin man faces drug, homicide charges in death of friend

A 24-year-old West Bend, Wisconsin, man is facing drug and homicide charges after allegedly providing the heroin that killed his 22-year-old friend in an overdose. The man has been charged with a felony count of heroin possession along with a first degree reckless homicide charge.

The charges against the man stem from an alleged incident that began on May 27. According to police, the 22-year-old man allegedly paid the defendant $100 for heroin. The man then allegedly gave his friend $40 worth of heroin. During an interview, the defendant reportedly told investigators that he was to supply his friend with more heroin at some point later in the week for the $100 payment.

Police state that after receiving the drugs, the friend returned to his own home where he lived with his parents. He was observed later in the day asleep on his bed. Around 3 a.m., the friend’s mother found the 22-year-old man and realized he was not breathing. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner. A search of the friend’s room revealed drug paraphernalia, including three hypodermic syringes and a charred teaspoon.

Police were allegedly later able to connect the man with his friend’s overdose after a search of the friend’s cellphone revealed numerous text messages about an arranged meeting for a drug purchase. The man was subsequently arrested after he was pulled over for a traffic stop on May 30. A syringe and small packet that allegedly contained heroin were recovered at the scene. The man was taken into custody.

An experienced Wisconsin criminal attorney may be able to assist defendants who are charged with drug crimes with a criminal defense that could potentially reduce charges or limit prison time.
