Ex Wisconsin correctional worker receives 18 months for sex crime

A 41-year-old former Racine Correctional Institution employee from Kenosha has pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault by correction staff. Although she was also facing a second charge of delivering illegal items to an inmate, this charge was later dismissed.

According to The Journal Times, the woman and another 33-year-old correctional staff worker allegedly engaged in sexual acts with the inmate in a restroom at the facility. The charges against the woman stemmed from an incident that occurred after the woman allegedly gave the inmate pornographic photographs of herself showing her naked along with smuggling him in a cellphone.

Staff at the prison reportedly found the photographs and videos on the memory card of the cellphone after the inmate was moved to another prison.

Although the woman was potentially facing a 25 year prison sentence, she was instead sentenced to 18 months of probation. She must also register as a sex offender on the sex offender registry. The other woman involved in the case is scheduled to appear in court on August 5. She currently remains out of jail on a $2,000 bond.

Sex crimes are a serious offense that can lead to significant ramifications for a defendant's personal and professional life. They could receive stiff prison sentences and if convicted, may even have to register as a sex offender on the sex offender registry. An experienced Wisconsin criminal attorney may be able to assist defendants who are accused of these types of crimes and could possibly help to provide a defense that could potentially dismiss or reduce these types of charges.
