77-year-old Wisconsin man receives 5 years in child porn case

A retired instructional program manager from the University of Wisconsin Extension is facing five years in prison for sexual exploitation of a child along with concurrent five-year sentences for possession of underage pornography. He was sentenced in court on May 12. The charges against the 77-year-old man from Sun Prairie stemmed from charges that the man possessed underage pornography, which he allegedly shared with other individuals on the Internet.

The man reportedly became a subject of interest after the Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating a computer analyst from Milwaukee back in January 2013. The computer analyst had allegedly been having discussions over the Internet with the man about underage pornography and child sexual assault. The man was then subsequently arrested after agents from the Department of Criminal Investigation searched the man’s residence as part of an ongoing federal drug investigation.

Although the man reportedly admitted to participating in discussions with other individuals in which he allegedly told stories about performing sexual acts with young boys, the man has maintained that he had actually made up the stories. He said that he had never inappropriately touched a child, nor acted out in that type of way. He also indicated during his testimony that he had simply made up the stories as a way to participate in chats on the Internet, so that he would have someone to talk to because he was lonely.

Sharing underage pornography over the Web is an internet crime that can have serious repercussions to a defendant’s personal and professional life if he or she is convicted. An experienced Wisconsin criminal attorney may be able to assist a defendant during this difficult legal process.
