Walworth County man arrested after placing Craigslist sex ad

A Walworth County man is facing multiple sex crime charges after his arrest as part of a Racine County Sheriff Department’s Internet sting. The charges stemmed from an incident in which the 50-year-old man allegedly traveled to Racine County with the intent of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy that he reportedly thought he had been communicating with on Craigslist.

The man has been charged in Racine County Circuit Court with attempted second degree sexual assault of a child, use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, and attempted child enticement.

According to court documents, the police sting was part of the department’s Internet Crimes Against Children initiative, which has been used in the past for similar types of stings. The sting was reportedly put into operation once again this time after investigators became aware that the man had allegedly placed an ad on Craigslist for the purpose of having sexual relations.

During the sting operation, the man allegedly began having a sexually explicit conversation with an undercover investigator who reportedly was posing as a 15-year-old boy. The man was then subsequently arrested after he arrived at a pre-determined location where he and the “teenager” had agreed to meet.

An Internet crime such as use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime is a serious offense that could affect a defendant’s personal and professional life. An experienced Wisconsin criminal attorney may be able to assist a defendant with these types of charges and could work to ensure that a defendant was treated fairly throughout the lengthy legal process.
