A 47-year-old Milwaukee man charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was also sentenced to 10 years of extended supervision for his alleged role in the death of a 25-year-old Mequon man that occurred back in August of 2011.
According to court documents, the Mequon man reportedly purchased what is known as a fix of heroin from the Milwaukee man who police have stated was an alleged heroin dealer. The man was later found unresponsive in his home with drug paraphernalia located near his body. Although recuse workers attempted to revive him, the man later died after being transported to a nearby hospital.
During their investigation, Ozaukee County sheriff’s investigators allegedly found the man’s phone number on the victim’s phone and reportedly proceeded to set up a buy with the Milwaukee man. He was subsequently arrested.
After the medical examiner report revealed that the cause of the victim’s death was from a heroin overdose, the Milwaukee man was charged with first-degree reckless homicide and delivery of drugs. Although the man’s attorneys argued that it was impossible to know whether the man had actually sold the victim the drugs, a jury found him guilty in January.
Drug crimes, such as possession of heroin with intent to distribute and delivery of drugs, can have serious consequences and should not be taken lightly. An experienced Wisconsin criminal attorney can help ensure a defendant’s rights are protected and work to build a strong defense for his or her client.
