JON'S CELL: An 18-year-old Argonne woman facing multiple drug charges appeared before the Lincoln County Circuit Court on Monday and will have her preliminary hearing on Jan. 21. The young woman has been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges stem from a routine traffic stop for reckless driving that resulted in the responding officer allegedly smelling marijuana in the pickup truck that the woman was riding in. A subsequent search of the vehicle with the help of a police K-9 resulted in the alleged discovery of 37 grams of cocaine in the front pocket of the woman’s shirt. However, no marijuana was discovered during the search.
According to court documents, the woman was riding with a 15-year-old driver of the pickup truck and another 15-year-old girl. All three initially provided fake names and ages to investigators in an attempt to make police think that they were all 14, but their true identities and ages were eventually sorted out.
The 15-year-old driver was charged with obstruction and cited for driving without a license, while the 15-year-old passenger was charged with obstructing an officer and being party to the crime of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver. Both were remanded to a juvenile detention facility.
The woman was ordered to be held on a $100,000 cash bond. If convicted, she could face up to 37 years in prison and a $120,000 fine.
