Two individuals charged with felony possession of meth

A 31-year-old Wisconsin man and 29-year-old woman were taken into police custody after a police K9 unit spotted a vehicle that turned off its headlights before continuing to drive down a street. When the officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, a large amount of illegal substances were allegedly recovered.

According to the report, the officer's police dog indicated that he had smelled illegal substances coming from the trunk of the vehicle. When the vehicle was searched, approximately $2,000 in cash, a stolen handgun and more than $100,000 in methamphetamines were found. More of the illegal substance was discovered in two residences owned by the individuals. The residences were searched after the authorities were able to secure a search warrant.

Both individuals in the vehicle were taken into police custody and potentially face charges for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and being felons in possession of a firearm. No other information was available at the time of this report.

A conviction on a felony drug charge can have incredibly serious consequences. In addition to a jail sentence, consequences include a criminal record and extensive fines. Further, a conviction may make it difficult for an individual to return to school and to secure a loan to purchase a home.

However, an experienced Wisconsin attorney may be able to defend their clients against these charges. One way is to attempt to have the charges reduced by either entering a plea to lesser charges or negotiating with the prosecution in order to have the charges reduced. For example, the attorney may have their client enter rehab in lieu of a jail sentence. Alternatively, the attorney may be able to have the charges dropped altogether if they find proof that their client's rights were violated during the arrest.
