Drug charges against four in Wisconsin

On October 23, police in Baraboo took four individuals into custody as part of a drug inquest. The police claim that the individuals were discovered in possession of marijuana and other substances, including prescription medications, paraphernalia and an unspecified amount of cash. All four face drug charges as a result of the operation.

Although police said that they executed the search of the Birch Street residence in accordance with a valid warrant, they did not specify what grounds that warrant was issued on. Reports did not say whether the individuals in the home were believed to have been selling the alleged drugs or if the substances were simply for personal use. At the time of reporting, it was also unknown whether the substance found had been confirmed as marijuana by a lab test.

All four of the individuals involved in the case were arrested for being suspected of possessing marijuana and possessing paraphernalia. While the women were later released, the two men also faced additional charges for allegedly maintaining a so-called drug dwelling and resisting an officer. Police did not specify why the men were charged with resisting arrest, and it remains unclear whether these charges were related to an incident that occurred during the initial search or something that happened later. The ages of the accused range from 20 to 31.

Drug charges can make it difficult for young people to continue their lives as they were. Accused individuals may find it hard to secure employment later if they get criminal records, and those who are ordered to undergo drug rehab or substance abuse treatments may have difficulty performing their current work duties. Criminal defense attorneys may be able to assist these individuals by filing appeals or identifying more-acceptable drug treatment programs that help get sentences reduced.
