Prescription drug addiction leads to robbery

A Wisconsin pharmacy was robbed on Sept. 17 for the second time in less than a year. Both robberies involved an armed individual demanding prescription drugs, including oxycodone, oxycontin and morphine. While it is known that drug addiction has long been at the root of a great many crimes, these robberies are symptomatic of a new development.

Wisconsin woman charged with embezzlement

A 49-year-old northern Wisconsin woman was charged with embezzling more than $700,000 from the company she worked for. The embezzlement charges span several years while she worked as the chief financial officer for a company in Cable. The company was responsible for managing two condominium development projects and a resort. The woman has also been charged with filing false tax returns.

Wiscon trucker agrees to plea deal in cyber attack

A Wisconsin trucker who joined an cyber attach on Koch Industries has admitted his role in the case and pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of accessing a protected computer in a deal with prosecutors for reduced charges. The defendant was allegedly part of the Internet group that call themselves Anonymous in an Internet crimethat attempted to take Koch Industries website offline. The case was resolve by reducing the original accusation to a misdemeanor charge.

Marathon traffic stop leads to drug arrests

On Sept. 11, the Marathon County Sheriff's Department made a traffic stop on I-39 near Nolton that ended with three people being taken into custody; sheriffs had originally pulled over the vehicle for a speeding violation. The 50-year-old driver of the vehicle was placed under arrest for drug paraphernalia. A 31-year-old passenger was arrested for drug possession with intent to deliver. A third passenger from Wausau was also detained, but it was not announced whether any charges would be filed against the 27-year-old Wisconsin resident.

Wisconsin man charged with felony drug possession after overdose

A 32-year-old Greenfield man was charged with felony drug possession of heroin after he overdosed in his home. His girlfriend called paramedics after she discovered him unconscious in their apartment. She found him lying on the couch with blue lips and labored breathing.

Woman faces felony drug charges after police raid cocaine lab

A Wisconsin woman is facing multiple felony charges after police claim that the apartment she lived in doubled as a cocaine lab. Police allege that weapons and drug distribution materials were seized from the apartment. The woman is awaiting a preliminary hearing.

Wisconsin pharmacist sentenced for using illegal prescriptions

A Sturgeon Bay pharmacist has been sentenced to three years' probation after pleading no contest to drug charges in a plea hearing before a Wisconsin state judge. Sentencing on three additional felony charges involving prescription drugs that the defendant was accused of stealing have been withheld as a result of a plea bargain that the man's attorney worked out with the court. The deferred sentence will allow the pharmacist time to obtain an assessment for substance abuse, complete counseling and pay restitution to the pharmacy where he worked.

Wisconsin doctor indicted on drug charges

An emergency medicine department head doctor has been charged with illegal possession of prescription drugs. On Aug. 28, a Madison grand jury indicted the doctor on federal drug charges, which included fraudulently obtaining the drugs. The doctor is alleged to have received these drugs from a prescription drug vending machine by writing and filling prescriptions in the names of 15 of his patients without their knowledge.
