Pornography charges could seriously impact life of Wisconsin man

As we've seen in previous posts, federal and state prosecutors take accusations of underage pornography very seriously. Those who are charged and convicted of possessing or producing underage pornography can face sentences that include time in prison. Federal charges can have significant consequences that go beyond legal sanctions as well.

One man from Ellsworth, Wisconsin was recently indicted on charges of production and possession of underage pornography in federal court. The was the outcome of an investigation that involved the local police department, the state's Department of Justice, as well as two federal agencies.

It is unclear how long the man has been the center of the investigation, but the article notes that allegations go back to January of 2009. The man is accused of engaging in sexual acts with a minor with the intent to produce sexually explicit images of him and the minor. There is no mention of how authorities initially came to suspect this man of criminal behavior.

Often these types of investigations involve looking at an individual's personal property including computer files, phone images and texts, and behavior on the Internet.

These types of charges can result in serious penalties if a conviction follows. This man is facing up to 40 years of prison if convicted of both underage pornography charges. There is no mention of it in the article, but another penalty that individuals may face when convicted of underage pornography is registering with the state's sex offender registry.

Being a registered sex offender can have serious implications for one's future. It can make it extremely difficult when seeking employment or a place to live.
