Domestic violence leads to attempted murder charges being filed

The seriousness of domestic violence cannot be understated. It can happen anywhere and at anytime, regardless of age, socioeconomic status or race, and those that it affects can have their lives changed forever. A recent incident that took place in Wisconsin concerns a woman who has suffered injuries resulting from alleged domestic violence. Her husband has been charged with attempted murder.

The 68-year-old woman was hospitalized on Feb. 1 and was listed in stable condition after allegedly being struck in the head with a wrench multiple times by her husband. Charges for attempted murder have been filed against her 65-year-old husband. County Sheriff’s office officials say that the man called 911 to report the incident, and they assert that the man admitted to striking his wife with the wrench.

When police arrived at the couple’s home, they claim that the man looked calm and told them that he and his wife had argued. Officials allege that a bloody pipe wrench measuring 8 inches was found in the basement. The woman was found in an upstairs hallway.

While being interviewed by the police, the man said that he has been taking medication for depression. He said that a “downturn” in the treatment led to frustration for both he and his wife and had led him to believe that his wife was going to leave him. The man allegedly used the wrench for the attack after first looking for a crowbar to use that he was unable to locate. He is said to have indicated a desire to scare his wife, not kill her.

A person accused of crimes related to domestic violence in Wisconsin will most likely be prosecuted aggressively. The reduction or elimination of charges is sometimes possible in these cases. By engaging an attorney as quickly as possible, the strongest possible defense can be formed to obtain a beneficial outcome for the client.
