Wisconsin man receives 15 years for alleged sexual assault

A 35-year-old man who pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second degree sexual assault of a child after initially being charged last year for three counts of child enticement and repeated sexual assault of a child, was sentenced in July to 15 years in prison to be followed by 10 years of extended supervision. The charges stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred on March 25, 2013.

According to court documents, the man was initially accused of inappropriately touching a 12-year-old girl through her clothing multiple times, however, the girl reportedly told a Child Advocacy Center employee that she was only assaulted once when he touched her and rubbed himself up against her while the girl was at his residence.

Although the man allegedly admitted to touching the girl, the girl’s mother reportedly asked for leniency in his sentencing. The Assistant District Attorney requested an 18 to 20 year sentence, noting that the man had been convicted back in 2006 for second degree sexual assault of a child after allegedly molesting a second family member of the 12-year-old girl’s mother. He was also charged in 1998 as a 19-year-old for being in a sexual relationship with his then 16-year-old girlfriend. However, the 1998 case was never prosecuted.

Upon his release, the man has been ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children unless he obtains written approval. He must also have no contact with the girl and will have to continue to register as a sex offender in the state where he resides.

Sex crimes against a child can have serious repercussions to a defendant’s personal and professional life. An experienced Wisconsin criminal attorney may be able to assist a defendant during this difficult time.
