Wisconsin pair arrested for delivering drugs near school

Two Wisconsin residents, a 35-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. were each charged this month with one felony count of "manufacturing/delivery of cocaine as party to a crime near a school." The charges stem from an undercover operation in which the Jefferson County Drug Taskforce used a subject to purchase a gram of cocaine from the pair.

The two allegedly made plans with the subject to meet at a coin laundry in Fort Atkinson, where the exchange of money for drugs was to take place. The laundry is less than 1,000 feet from Luther Elementary School.

While under surveillance by police, the woman and another man arrived at the coin laundry with a dog. The defendant, who was in a car with the subject, then got out of the car to talk to them.

Officers allegedly later observed the woman going to the driver's side of the car to allegedly speak with the subject about whether he had money for the exchange. The subject gave the woman $100, which had been provided by the drug taskforce for the transaction. Once the man returned to the car, he allegedly gave the subject what was later determined to be approximately .42 grams of cocaine.

While both the man and woman have been granted bond, the judge ruled they are not allowed to have contact with each other, nor can they possess drugs or drug paraphernalia. They may also not consume a controlled substance unless given a prescription by a doctor.

If convicted, the man and woman could face a maximum of 15 years in prison for this crime. The male defendant could serve up to 30 years because he has several prior convictions and as well as instances of "failing to appear in court."

Drug charges can have serious consequences for those who are convicted, and even more so when they have previous convictions." An experienced Milwaukee criminal attorney can help to ensure that a defendant's rights are protected throughout the legal process.
